A talented Tabla performer and composer, Navjot Sandhu has performed with various ensembles in many different contexts and venues, including Indian classical, semi classical, folk, western contemporary art music, experimental and world music. Navjot has taught private Tabla lessons and given lecture recitals at several schools in Michigan. Navjot was the recipient of 2008-09 Fulbright Grant to study Tabla performance in the Indian Punjab. He is continuing to expand his knowledge under the expert guidance of Pt. Tilak Raj, a renowned exponent of the Punjab baj.
Navjot is also a composer. He has studied composition with Charles Ruggiero and Mark Sullivan at Michigan State University. Navjot has composed several chamber and solo pieces with performances at MSU and elsewhere. He also performs with and composes for Wisaal, a world music group with a confluence of Arabic, Brazilian, Indian, Klezmer and American influences.
